HOD Civil Engineering

HOD Message

Welcome to the Department of Civil Engineering at Government Polytechnic, Gajapati, Paralakhemundi, Odisha. Established in 2013, our department is dedicated to addressing critical challenges and meeting the needs of industries, society, and academia. We are committed to fostering lifelong learning, growth, and development, empowering students to excel in their professional careers.

Civil Engineering is a vital discipline focused on designing, constructing, and maintaining infrastructure such as roads, bridges, canals, dams, airports, pipelines, and buildings, all while prioritizing environmental sustainability. Our department strives to instill essential program outcomes through effective utilization of human resources and state-of-the-art facilities.

We maintain regular interactions with students, parents, and staff, encouraging participation in parent-teacher meetings, extracurricular activities, co-curricular events, and industry interaction programs to ensure holistic development.

Vision

To be a global leader in civil engineering education and practice, committed to shaping a sustainable, resilient, and equitable built environment. We aim to inspire the next generation of engineers to innovate, collaborate, and address pressing community challenges while advancing knowledge and technologies for a safer, sustainable future.

Mission

  • Provide high-quality education and training to prepare innovative, responsible, and ethical civil engineering leaders.
  • Advance knowledge through research, fostering sustainable practices and addressing societal infrastructure needs.
  • Develop professionals through rigorous academics, hands-on experiences, and industry collaborations to contribute to resilient, safe, and sustainable infrastructure.

Established in 2013, our department adapts to industry changes, promotes lifelong learning, and meets societal needs. Civil engineering plays a critical role in construction and maintenance of infrastructure like buildings, roads, railways, bridges, and dams, ensuring safety and environmental harmony.

Programme Educational Objectives (PEOs)

PEOs are broad statements describing the career and professional accomplishments our program prepares students to achieve within three years post-diploma.

  • PEO-I: Preparation - Enable students to succeed in employment or pursue undergraduate education in civil or allied engineering disciplines.
  • PEO-II: Core Competence - Provide a solid foundation in mathematics, science, and engineering to solve civil engineering problems.
  • PEO-III: Breadth - Equip students with engineering breadth to innovate and solve multidisciplinary real-life problems.
  • PEO-IV: Professionalism - Instill professional ethics, communication skills, and teamwork for career success.
  • PEO-V: Lifelong Learning - Foster an academic environment promoting excellence and continuous learning in emerging technologies.

Programme Outcomes (POs)

POs are specific statements outlining what students should know and do upon graduation, focusing on skills, knowledge, and behavior acquired through the program.

  1. Basic Knowledge: Apply mathematics, science, and engineering fundamentals to solve complex civil engineering problems.
  2. Discipline Knowledge: Apply civil engineering knowledge to solve core or applied problems.
  3. Experiments and Practice: Conduct experiments, analyze data, and synthesize valid conclusions.
  4. Modern Tool Usage: Use modern engineering tools and techniques for complex activities.
  5. The Engineer and Society: Assess societal, health, safety, legal, and cultural issues in professional practice.
  6. Environment and Sustainability: Understand and apply sustainable development principles.
  7. Ethics: Commit to professional ethics and responsibilities.
  8. Individual and Team Work: Function effectively in diverse, multidisciplinary teams.
  9. Communication: Communicate complex engineering activities effectively.
  10. Lifelong Learning: Engage in independent learning to adapt to technological changes.

Course Outcomes (COs)

COs are specific statements detailing what students should know and be able to do at the end of each course. Defined by faculty, they contribute to program outcomes and focus on skills, knowledge, and behavior acquired in specific subjects.

Programme Specific Outcomes (PSOs)

  • Design, develop, supervise, and implement solutions in the construction industry.
  • Apply standard practices to ensure quality material and output.
